Community Safety and Crime Prevention Awards Nomination Deadline

The deadline for submissions to the Community Safety and Crime Prevention Awards has been extended to 4:30 p.m. on Monday, July 21.

Each year the Ministry of Justice recognizes individuals, groups, and programs that have made outstanding contributions to crime prevention and community safety. This year, the Ministry of Justice Community Safety and Crime Prevention Awards recipients will be announced at the Awards Ceremony on October 31, 2014 as part of Crime Prevention Awareness Week.

There are ten award categories this year including the Dr. Liz Elliott Restorative Justice Memorial Award (please see descriptions in the attached nomination package). All nominations will be reviewed and selected based on the following criteria: commitment, perseverance, innovation and contribution. To nominate an individual, group or program, please complete the award nomination with a description of how the nominee’s contribution to crime prevention is worthy of recognition.

Acting Together:Community University Research Alliance (AT-CURA) team at Kwanlten Polytechnic University, Dr. Gira Bhatt and Dr. Roger Tweed will be hosting a major two day international conference on “Youth Strengths and Prevention of Delinquency and Gang Involvement:  Academics and Community Acting Together,” July 23-25, 2014.

The conference delegates will learn about AT-CURA’s successes and share research and practice focusing on youth strengths to develop or improve youth programs and public policy.  Delegates will include academic researchers, service providers, parents, teachers, youth, police agencies and government policy makers.
